Anesthesia
At Memorial, your anesthesia is given by a team from Anesthesia Associates of Belleville. The team members are not Memorial’s employees.
Before surgery, you will talk to your anesthesiologist about which anesthesia is right for you. You will be told if the anesthesia has any risks. Be sure your anesthesiologist answers any questions. There are different types of anesthesia:
- General anesthesia—With this medicine, the patient is completely asleep.
- Regional anesthesia—This medicine numbs a certain part of the body. Sometimes anesthesia to help the patient relax is also used.
- Local anesthesia—This medicine makes the area of the surgical procedure numb.
