Memorial Earns High Performing Status, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Leads Multiple BJC Hospitals in High Rankings by U.S. News & World Report
Multiple BJC HealthCare hospitals have been ranked by U.S. News & World Report, led by Barnes-Jewish Hospital and its physician partners at Washington University School of Medicine on the prestigious national Honor Roll of “Best Hospitals” and ranked as No. 1 in Missouri and No. 1 in the metro St. Louis area.
Missouri Baptist Medical Center secured No. 2 rankings in both Missouri and the metro St. Louis area. Christian Hospital also achieved high marks locally and regionally, ranking No. 5 in metro St. Louis and No. 9 in Missouri. In the pediatric rankings announced in June, St. Louis Children’s Hospital was recognized among the Best Children’s Hospitals in the country and ranked No. 1 in St. Louis.

In addition to the 2023 Honor Roll, BJH ranked nationally in 11 specialties: cancer; cardiology, heart & vascular surgery; diabetes & endocrinology; ear, nose & throat; gastroenterology & gastrointestinal surgery; geriatrics; neurology & neurosurgery; obstetrics & gynecology; orthopedics; pulmonology & lung surgery; and urology. BJH was also recognized as high performing (top 10% of all evaluated hospitals) in the rheumatology specialty. Of the more than 4,500 hospitals evaluated, only 164 were ranked nationally in at least one specialty.

MBMC was also recognized as “high performing” in three specialties, and CH was recognized as high performing in one specialty.
U.S. News & World Report also rates hospitals on a scale of High Performing, Average or Below Average in 21 common procedures and conditions: abdominal aortic aneurysm, aortic valve surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, leukemia/lymphoma/myeloma, lung cancer surgery, ovarian cancer surgery, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery, spinal fusion, stroke, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and uterine cancer surgery. BJH was rated high performing in 18 categories, MBMC in 15 categories, CH in seven, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital in six, Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital in three, Memorial Hospital Belleville in three, Parkland Health Center in one and Alton Memorial Hospital in one.
